It will be illegal to work on equipment containing or designed to contain F gases after 4th July this year if the technician does not hold a recognised F Gas Certificate. There has been considerable debate in the industry and trade press as to whether the industry will be ready for this deadline, inspite of the F Gas qualifications having been available for two years. Although many individuals and companies have achieved their necessary certificates, there are no definitive numbers as to how many people or companies are within scope of the regulations and therefore it is difficult to estimate how many are still to be trained – or how many may miss the 4th July deadline. There are over 60 training providers nationwide offering the qualifications (City & Guilds 2079 or CITB/CSkills J11-14) and three Company F Gas Certification bodies set up.
