Air Conditioning Assessments

Often overlooked, it is currently a legal requirement to have any air conditioning installation with a (combined) total load of more than 12kW to have an independent air conditioning inspection and report carried out.  BCS provide fully qualified A/C inspectors along with comprehensive reports.  We are able to support recommendations with valuable advice, often identifying potential savings far in excess of the inspection cost.

England & Wales

If you have operational control of air conditioning systems with a cumulative effective rated output of greater than 12kW you must be in possession of an air conditioning assessment report for the system from 4th January 2011.

Air conditioning systems first put into service on or after 1st January 2008 must have their first inspection completed within 5 years of the original date they were first put into service.

Scotland

In Scotland, the timetable for introduction of these assessments is;

  • Systems in excess of 250kW- Must be assessed by 4th January 2011 and the inspections being carried out from 4th January 2009.
  • Systems in excess of 12kW, but less than 250kW-Must be assessed by 4th January 2013 and the inspections being carried out from 4th January 2011.

The guidance from Scottish Building Standards is that those managing systems in excess of above 12kW, should be arranging inspections now.
